Kopchick Scholars

Through a generous donation by John and Char Kopchick, outstanding student scholar awards are made annually in each of the following categories. Applications are announced in early spring each year, and complete application submissions are due in March. Recipients received one of the following awards.

Student-Faculty Research Award

Criteria: This is a joint application for faculty and students (graduate or undergraduate), limited to applications from biochemistry or cell molecular biology students. Submit the following: cover page, unofficial transcript for the student, CV or résumé for both student and faculty proponents, and three-page description of proposed research and itemized budget.

Graduate Student Fellowship

Criteria: First-year and full-time graduate students in biochemistry or cell and molecular biology. Performing research, exceptional character, cocurricular leadership, merit, good standing with the university, and interview for consideration.

Undergraduate Student Fellowship

Criteria: Full-time undergraduate student in biochemistry or cell and molecular biology, 3.25 IUP GPA, earned 90 credit hours at time of receipt, exceptional character, cocurricular leadership, merit. Preference for students pursuing post-secondary education in biochemistry or cell and molecular biology (and currently performing research). Preference for students from these counties in PA: Armstrong, Cambria, Indiana, or Jefferson.

Unique Undergraduate Scholarship

Criteria: Unique characteristics beyond merit (exemplary personal character, uniqueness of background and culture, strong work ethic, perceived leadership qualities, enthusiastic scientific curiosity), first-generation undergraduate student, upperclassman. Preference for under-represented populations students and students with financial need.
